What are the Requirements to Apply for a Study Permit in Canada?

You must meet the following requirements to be eligible for a study permit:

• You are enrolled at a Designated Learning Institution
• You are able to prove that you have enough money to fund your studies, including your tuition, living expenses for yourself and accompanying family members, and a return transportation for yourself and accompanying family members.

You must also prove to the immigration officer that you are a genuine student, and you have no intention of staying in Canada on a permanent basis.

I already have Post Secondary Education in my Home Country. Can I still apply for a Study Permit?

Yes. However, your application will most likely be scrutinized at a higher degree than an individual without any post secondary education applying for a study permit.

The important thing is to explain to the immigration officer why the education in Canada is either relevant to your current education, occupation, or some other relevant reason to your circumstances.

I was Refused for a Study Permit, can I Appy Again?

Yes. You can apply for a study permit after a refusal. However, your immigration record will permanently show that you were refused in the past. It is important that subsequent applications address the shortcoming of the prior refused application.

My Application was Refused Can I Appeal the Decision?

Yes, you can either apply for a reconsideration of your decision, or appeal your decision to the Federal Court of Canada.
