temporary resident permit

Being told that you are not allowed into Canada creates a lot of frustration for family visits, attending business events, or traveling for an emergency.

Fortunately, a Temporary Resident Permit (TRP) is available for folks who would otherwise be denied entry. But what is a Temporary Resident Permit, and how does it even work?

What Is a Temporary Resident Permit?

A Temporary Resident Permit is a legal instrument that provides entry to Canada for people who are otherwise inadmissible to enter for a justified reason. A person can become inadmissible to Canada due to past criminal convictions, medical issues, or a history of misrepresentation in past immigration dealings.

Unlike a visa, a TRP is granted at the discretion of an immigration officer and is only issued when the reason for entry is important enough to justify it. This legal tool may be a great option for you as long as you can prove that you have a valid reason to be in Canada.

When to Apply for a TRP

A TRP can be applied for either at a Canadian port of entry (if eligible) or submitted in advance to a consulate. It’s especially helpful to those with:

  • DUI or other criminal convictions in their background.
  • Medical conditions that have triggered inadmissibility.
  • Past immigration violations, misrepresentation issues, or other errors.

TRPs usually receive approval for specific durations ranging from days, weeks, or months, and often include certain conditions you must follow.

Why Legal Help Matters

TRPs are most likely to succeed when the application includes detailed documentation and strategic planning. At Lawgical Law Corporation, we build TRP applications with the same care we use in appeals.  This involves outlining a strong argument with supporting documentation and addressing every possible concern that an immigration officer may raise.

The combination of our experience with the Federal Court of Canada and Immigration Division, along with our other offices in Vancouver, Surrey, and Abbotsford, allows us to handle complex cases.

A Second Chance at Entry

A denied visa or entry doesn’t always mean a closed door. If you’ve been deemed inadmissible, a Temporary Resident Permit may be your solution for visiting Canada legally and responsibly. Contact Lawgical Law Corporation to determine your eligibility status and get started on creating a strong application.
